This job gives me the chance to do a lot of cool things and yesterday was no exception. Who doesn’t want to be the guy at centre ice taking part in the shootout competition during the intermission of a hockey game??

I got to do that yesterday thanks to the Ayr Centennials. The team invited me to take part in the intermission challenge to help a lucky kid win a Sport Screen. If you don’t know what a Sport Screen is, by the way, you should really check it out. It’s a made-in-Kitchener invention that will protect your garage door, house, or major appliance from marks and dents made by your kid shooting pucks. It’s pretty awesome, and what my parents wouldn’t have done for one when I was a kid!

Anyway, I got to be out there at centre ice with former Kitchener Rangers captain Ben Fanelli….and some goof from another radio station in town. 😉  He’s actually a great guy but, in the interests of keeping my job, I’m just going to call him that “Goof From the Other Radio Station.”

Fanelli had his own stick, Goof From the Other Radio Station had his own gloves, and me? I had my sparkling personality. And the Centennials enjoyed that because when I went to the bench to borrow a stick, they tossed the tiniest stick you’ve ever seen onto the ice. Since I’ve heard all the short jokes before, I picked up the stick and used it.

I may or may not have put my very first shot with the mini-stick into the top corner of the net, scoring big points for my shootout team. And my team may or may not have won the contest, meaning my shooting partner (Rowan, pictured below) won a Sport Screen. But I don’t like to brag. All you really need to know is that THIS radio station is better than ALL the other radio stations…in more ways than one. 🙂

Thanks to the Centennials for having us out! It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Farwell
