A couple faces up 90+ days in jail and $500 in fines for overdue library book.

Catherine and Melvin Duren faces charges after overdue books at the Tecumseh Public Library in Michigan were brought to their attention. Melvin has taken a book out last yearcalled “The Rome Prophecy” under his son’s account.  He had kept it for 8 months and returned it.

Catherine was also informed about a missing Dr. Seuss book. She was told by the library that all late fees would be sent in the mail. She had offered to pay for the late fees, replacing the book, and money for the unit’s diversion program.

After paying $100 in bond fees, the couple looks for justice.

What do you think about the charges?

How can we help?
