British Columbia has its mountains and the east coast has its lush landscape and homes on the water. But, really, are we not living in one of the most beautiful parts of Canada? Southern Ontario has so much going for it, and I got to drink a lot of it in as I continued to tour small towns, as recommended by you.It all started Saturday with a birthday celebration in Thornbury. There’s a place there called The Dam Pub, which not only had a Shepherd’s Pie featured on the TV show ‘You Gotta Eat Here‘ (it was delicious) but it also offered more than 700 whiskies. 700! Needless to say, choosing just one was a little difficult.

As if the pub wasn’t enough, the ride to Thornbury was spectacular. Up through the Grey County Highlands into what can only be described as God’s country. After lunch, we did a little craft brewery tour through Collingwood before heading back down towards Durham, Hanover, and then home.

We went out on Saturday because we had the time — and the recommendations. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. So many places to visit, so few Sundays. But we found a great spot this Sunday in Port Stanley. GT’s on The Beach was the spot, the perch tacos were on the menu, and then it was off to the legendary Shaw’s Dairy Bar for ice cream. Heavenly!

I’m taking some vacation time of my own for the next couple weeks but we’ll be back in August to visit more small towns, so keep those recommendations coming! I’ve loved every stop on the tour so far.

See ya down the road,

Farwell

GT’s is the spot! Apparently my fellow bikers didn’t lie.
Best ice cream ever? Pretty darn close.
