The next time somebody tells you that you can’t have it all — or at least do it all — remind them of the Labour Day weekend of 2016. We were blessed with perfect summer weather and I tried to make the absolute most of it by getting EVERYWHERE. I hope you enjoyed your final long weekend of the summer.

The first thing I did was get up to Lake Huron. My family used to cottage in Port Elgin every summer but I’d gotten away from visiting over the last few years. And that’s a shame because if it’s one thing I’ve learned this year it’s that taking time to stop and smell the roses — or watch the sunset — is really important. And, seriously, look at that sunset! Wowzers.

I was back in town Saturday to grab a couple glasses of Block Three beer with my buddies before venturing downtown Saturday night to check out a new show called “The Ruse.” I’m still trying to decide if it was magic or mind control but I definitely recommend seeing it. It’s a really unique experience, a fun night out, and who doesn’t want to give downtown Kitchener a little love? 😉

It was a LONG weekend, so we weren’t done yet. After breakfast with a good friend on Sunday morning, it was off to The Aud — that’s right, the hockey rink!! — for Kitchener Rangers Fanfest and the team’s first exhibition game. Don’t let the weather fool you — we’re only 17 days from the regular season opener for our Kitchener Rangers! Time flies.

From the rink to the links and I had the privilege of hanging out on the 18th hole at Whistle Bear, announcing the golfers as they came down the fairway during the final round of the Manulife LPGA Classic. What a coup it is to have the best female golfers in the world coming to our community for this tournament each year, and what a treat it is to watch them play the game. If you’ve never been before, again, I’d recommend it. The tournament returns next year from June 7-11.

It’s hard to call hockey and golf “work,” although they were duties assigned by the station for my “job” (I know, tough gig, eh?). So on Monday it was back to R & R with a little time on the motorcycle and then a lot more time in the sun enjoying a Summer Send-off BBQ with friends. The beer was cold, the food was delicious, and the company was top-notch. I just can’t say enough about the summer of 2016. Definitely one of the most memorable of my rapidly-advancing life.

Hope your summer was great, too! Feel free to relive some of your favourite moments here in the comments, and by sharing pics. I’ve shared a bunch of mine below.

Next stop…Oktoberfest!

Prost!

I swear we didn't co-ordinate outfits before seeing 'The Ruse' on Saturday night.

Not a bad view for "work" at the LPGA's Manulife Classic on Sunday afternoon.

This thing may have been to blame for me showing up late to Sunday's BBQ...
