For kids with autism, getting a haircut can be an incredibly scary experience for them. The noises from people talking, the buzzing clippers, the bright lights and having to sit still in a chair can be overwhelming. So hairdresser Kelly Muzio found a solution. She started doing haircuts outside on her farm, with animals to watch and a lot more quiet.

Kelly opened Hair on the Farm at her Fresno, California farm and made a barber’s chair out of a saddle on a bale of hay where she cuts hair for kids with autism. Kelly said “I’m not an expert on autism, but I know that they need something unique to make them feel safe.”

Her set-up is working for her clients. Parents love the experience because it keeps their kids calm and avoids scenes and the kids like it because they can check out the goats, chickens, and sheep and the haircut is a quick but exciting experience!
