Ragweed VS Goldenrod…do you know the difference?

This sign was spotted in a downtown Kitchener neighbourhood explaining the difference between Ragweed and Goldenrod. To be honest, it is often believed that the bright yellow plant is the culprit behind many people’s allergies during the end of Summer/Fall season.

Goldenrod pollen is heavy and slightly sticky, this pollen does not blow in the wind unlike ragweed. Goldenrod plants support bees, birds, and over 100 different species of caterpillars, which turn into butterflies and moths. Plus, it adds a beautiful pop of yellow to our landscape!

In Ontario the ragweed season peaks end of summer and lasts until we see frost. With the cold weather approaching…ragweed season is soon out the door.
